Field Trip Ideas and Printables

Field Trips are not just a  day of fun but so much more PLUS the fun!!  Kids can learn from so many, personal hands on experiences outside of a textbook & most of the time, they'll learn more from these experiences than from what they learn in a book.  I want to share some great field trip ideas, links and printables to enrich your homeschooling life.  I hope these suggestions and resources fill your days with fun & joy, learning with your precious kids that God has blessed you with!

Helpful Tips for Planning your trip:
1. Plan trips that pertain to the subjects that your are studying.  Many times I look for a trip that will really help the kids gain lots of knowledge and experience from what they've learned in a chapter or book from our home study.  We were studying Flying Creatures one year so we were able to have a local beekeeper come to our homeschool co-op and also the local rangers at a nearby park set up a day for homeschoolers (at our request) on local birds.  It was fantastic!
If you are studying fish, go to a local fish store, aquarium or fish hatchery...or even a local pond. Studying the Civil War?  Locate a reenactment that will be happening or find a location that may have been associated with the Underground Railroad (if that is in your part of the country).  There are so many neat ideas!

2. Consider keeping a notebook, journal or scrapbook for the school year about all the field trips you have taken!  The kids will LOVE looking back through it at all the wonderful memories and information they learned from each experience.  They'll even be excited to share them with friends and family!  See below for some FREE printables that will help you along your way!
3. You can look for field trips that are as simple as touring a local grocery store or bakery to visiting a large museum in a neighboring city.  The budget you have can fit into your field trip agenda for the year.  You may have to get creative but you can make the experiences for each of your kids rich and rewarding no matter what the budget you may have.

Ephesians 3:20-21

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
